MINI Drivers Hit The Road To Feed America
Local newspapers in towns and cities across the country have been writing about the bizarre phenomenon of seeing over 1,000 MINI Cooper models driving through their streets. What’s going on? What has MINI drivers on the road en-masse? It’s all part of the MINI Takes the States rally. Beginning in Atlanta, GA on July 9th, the event ended on the 23rd in Palm Springs, CA. The rally is hosted by the MINI brand every two years to celebrate MINI motorers and to raise money for a great cause. This year, proceeds from the epic road trip went to Feeding America, a network of food banks that’s leading the fight against hunger in communities nationwide.
According to Rob Duda, MINI communications consultant, the initial goal was to raise enough money to provide 800,000 meals across the country. Well, thanks to the efforts of MINI motorers, the rally didn’t just hit that goal, it surpassed it. The final tally for meals provided ended at more than 1,000,000. To spur donations, MINI drivers set up personal donation pages, and sold everything from jewelry to brownies to buttons. A healthy spirit of competition helped drive donation efforts by drivers. According to Duda, “As they reach new levels, they get badges for their cars to show how much money they’ve raised. Each morning, we’ve been announcing the top five fundraisers. It’s turned it into a fun competition.” After the feeling of supporting such a great cause, the best part about the rally has been the diverse array of MINI drivers that have taken to the streets, with drivers hailing from Britain, Italy, Germany, and beyond.
